Castleton Resident Chelsea Novak Honored at Hudson Valley Community College \"Photo

Chelsea Novak of Castleton, a 2006 graduate of the Hudson Valley Community College Criminal Justice program, was recently honored by the college.

Novak received the New York State Sheriff’s Association Scholarship Award, which is given to an outstanding graduate of the Criminal Justice program. Novak was a President’s List student and a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year college students. She plans to study political science at the University at Albany this fall and hopes to become a member of the New York State Police.

While at Hudson Valley Community College, Novak was one of the founders of the Debate and Social Justice Club. She was named to Who’s Who Among Junior College Students and participated in the National Coalition Building Institute’s diversity training.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 60 degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 12,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. Hudson Valley has more than 60,000 alumni.
