LaSalle and Colonie Finish Second and Third, Respectively
Averill Park Wins Viking Challenge

Averill Park High School took first place at the ninth annual Viking Challenge, a fast-paced general knowledge test for teams of student participants, hosted by Hudson Valley Community College on March 16.

Each member of the winning team – Meghan Burns, Joe Gentile and Will Skinner - received a $500 scholarship to attend Hudson Valley. The team also won a Pentium-level computer for their school.
LaSalle Institute finished in second place followed by Colonie High School. Academy of the Holy Names, Lansingburgh High School, Schenectady High School, Scotia-Glenville High School, Troy High School and Voorheesville High School also competed. Each team consisted of three students and an alternate.
Every member of the top three teams received a scientific multifunction calculator. Each of the top three schools also received Encarta Reference software donated by Interactive Solutions, and a Trivial Pursuit CD-ROM.
