Hudson Valley Community College Director of Athletics Drew Marrochello has been selected by his peers as the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III Athletic Director of the Year for the 2003-04 school year. Athletic directors from 29 Region III colleges voted on the award.

"Hudson Valley\'s athletic programs have thrived under Drew Marrochello\'s leadership," President Marco J. Silvestri, Ph.D., said. "Our intercollegiate teams have won 35 championships at the conference, regional and national level, and our student-athletes have excelled academically as well during Drew's tenure."

Hudson Valley's athletic teams combined to win more than 62 percent of their games in 2003-04, and 12 of the college's 14 varsity teams competed in postseason competition. The football team was awarded the Region III championship and competed in The Graphic Edge Bowl, the baseball and softball team each won Mountain Valley Conference championships, and the women's basketball team advanced to the Region III semifinals for the fourth consecutive season.

The Vikings were equally impressive in the classroom. The Hudson Valley lacrosse team was named the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year after posting a 3.08 combined grade point average – the best among two-year college lacrosse programs in the country. The softball team also was cited by the NJCAA for outstanding academics after combining to earn a 3.03 cumulative team GPA.

"I am honored to have been chosen for this award by my fellow athletic directors," Marrochello said. "This award is a testament to the high quality coaching staff and athletic administrators we have at Hudson Valley, and to the support the college's administration gives to the athletic department."

Under Marrochello's guidance, Hudson Valley teams have combined to win 24 conference championships, 10 Region III titles, and one NJCAA championship since 1997. Ten of Hudson Valley's teams have won either a regional or conference championship during Marrochello's tenure.

Since 1997, 34 Hudson Valley student-athletes have garnered All-American honors, and 25 student-athletes have been named Academic All-Americans.

Marrochello also oversaw the renovation of the Hudson Valley Athletic Hall of Fame, and the formation of the Viking Club – a fundraising arm of Hudson Valley athletics that is administered by the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation – during the 2003-04 school year.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 60 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 12,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. Hudson Valley has nearly 60,000 alumni.
