Watervliet Resident Tammy Tschirhart Honored With Dental Hygiene Award at Hudson Valley Community College \"Photo

Tammy Tschirhart of Watervliet, a 2004 graduate of the Hudson Valley Community College Dental Hygiene program, recently was honored by the college.

Tschirhart was awarded the Dental Hygiene Association of the State of New York President's Award for Excellence. The annual award is given to a graduating member of the program who is an active member of the college chapter of the Student American Dental Hygienists' Association (SADHA). The recipient also must graduate in the top two-thirds of the class and consistently excel in patient management and dental health education. Tschirhart served as president and secretary of the college SADHA chapter.

Tschirhart was a Dean's List student in each of her four semesters at the college. She plans to work as a hygienist at a dental practice in Lake Placid following graduation.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 11,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. The college has nearly 60,000 alumni.
