Hudson Valley Community College Student Jonathan Ashdown Honored With Joseph J. Smith RPI Medal \"Photo

Jonathan Ashdown of Greenwich, a 2004 graduate of the Hudson Valley Community College Engineering Science program, recently was honored by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the school he will attend this fall.

Ashdown, a President's List student at Hudson Valley, was awarded the Joseph J. Smith RPI Medal, which is given to an outstanding Hudson Valley Community College student who plans to transfer to Rensselaer.

President of the college's chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for students at two-year colleges, Ashdown also was named to the All-State Academic Team, which is sponsored by USA Today, Phi Theta Kappa and the American Association of Community Colleges.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 11,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. The college has nearly 60,000 alumni.
