Rensselaer Resident Heather R. Gordon Honored With Dental Hygiene Awards at Hudson Valley Community College \"Photo

Heather R. Gordon of Rensselaer, a 2004 honors graduate of the Hudson Valley Community College Dental Hygiene program, recently was honored by the college.

She was the recipient of the Verna Thornhill Meeker Scholarship, which is given to a first-year student who resides in the Capital District and who shows a commitment to improve public oral health through participation in community outreach. The award is sponsored by the Capital District Dental Hygienists' Association.

Gordon also was awarded the Oral B Excellence in Chairside Education Award, which is given to a Dental Hygiene student who has demonstrated excellence in clinical patient care.

She was a member of the President's List during her time at the college.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 11,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. The college has nearly 60,000 alumni.
