Three Hudson Valley Athletes Earn NJCAA Academic Award

Slingerland's Michael Suarez and East Nassau's Becky Frederick Given Distinguished Academic Award

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) recognized three Hudson Valley Community College student-athletes as Academic All-Americans for having at least a 3.6 cumulative grade point average following the 2003-04 academic year.
Becky Frederick (East Nassau/New Lebanon High School), a member of the Hudson Valley softball and women's soccer team, and Michael Suarez (Slingerlands/Home Schooled), a member of the lacrosse team, earned the Distinguished Academic All-American Award for having over a 3.8 GPA.
Ashley Weil (Slingerlands/Guilderland High School), a member of the Hudson Valley cross country team, also was named an Academic All-American.
In the 2003-04 academic year, Hudson Valley teams combined to win 64 percent of their games. Twelve of the college's 14 teams participated in postseason play. The college's football team won the Northeast Football Conference and played in The Graphic Edge Bowl in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The softball team won the Mountain Valley Conference for the third consecutive season, and the baseball team set a Region III Division III record with 42 wins.
