Bellino Appointed Director of Viking Child Care Center at Hudson Valley Community College

\"ImageElizabeth Bellino of East Greenbush has been appointed director of the Viking Child Care Center, the day care facility at Hudson Valley Community College.

Bellino has been a professional in the field of child care for 32 years, serving most recently as executive director of the Kenwood Child Development Center in Albany. Previously, she served as a teacher, head teacher and director at the Arbor Hill Day Care Center and as director at the Masterson Child Development Center and at Wee Care at Labor, both in Albany.

Bellino was named Honoree of the Year in 1992 by the Capital District Child Care Coordinating Council. She has a bachelor's degree in sociology from Hartwick College and a master's degree in Education from the University at Albany.

The Viking Child Care Center is run by the Hudson Valley Community College Faculty Student Association. The $3 million, 16,000-square-foot center opened in August 2001. Located on Williams Road at the southeastern end of Hudson Valley's campus, it provides affordable care on a sliding-fee scale for 128 children ages six weeks to 5 years. It also affords easy accessibility for parents attending the college, as well as community parents. The center was selected for inclusion in the 2002 American School & University Architectural Portfolio, which is touted as "the premier showcase for education design projects."

Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 11,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training.
