Phil Brown Receives President's Special Recognition Award

"Phil Brown has been a tremendous asset to Hudson Valley for more than 30 years," said John Buono, president of Hudson Valley. "Through his leadership, Hudson Valley has developed one of the nation's best Physical Education programs at the community college level."

Brown has been the chair of Hudson Valley Physical Education Department since 1987. Hudson Valley has more than 230 students pursuing Physical Education degrees, and nearly 2,000 students annually are enrolled in Physical Education and health and wellness classes.

Brown was integral to the recent establishment of a partnership between Hudson Valley and Sage College of Albany in which students can receive their bachelor's degree in Physical Education without leaving the Capital Region.

Brown earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Ithaca College. He began teaching at Hudson Valley in 1969.

Hudson Valley Community College, located at 80 Vandenburgh Avenue in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 11,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training.
