Maria Pollack Receives President's Award For Excellence In Teaching

Image of Maria PollackHudson Valley Community College recently recognized Dr. Maria C. Pollack of Rensselaer, an assistant professor of English, with the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Pollack has taught at Hudson Valley for 12 years. She teaches an array of courses including Composition I and II, Contemporary Novel, Short Story, American Literature II and English Fundamentals.

One student said about Pollack, "I returned to school after 30 years, and I must attribute my continued success at Hudson Valley as a direct result of having Dr. Pollack helping me from the beginning."

Pollack holds a bachelor's degree in English and psychology and a doctorate in English from the University at Albany. She earned master's degrees in counseling psychology from SUNY New Paltz and in English from The College of Saint Rose.

Hudson Valley Community College, located at 80 Vandenburgh Avenue in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 11,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training.
