Sharpen Your Blades For Hudson Valley's Free Community Skating Day To Kick Off Rink Season & First Hockey Game

Hudson Valley Community College is opening the doors of its Robert M. Conway, Jr. Ice Skating Rink on Sunday, October 29 for a free Community Skating Day. The public is invited to skate free of charge between noon and 2 p.m., then stick around for the first Hudson Valley hockey game of the season versus SUNY Stony Brook at 2:30 p.m. The hockey team will join the public on the ice during the free skate. Rental skates are available for $3 per pair (quantities are limited).
The Robert Conway Rink is located in the McDonough Sports Complex on the Hudson Valley Community College campus at 80 Vandenburgh Ave., Troy.
The Hudson Valley rink offers recreational skating for the public in the fall and spring season during selected hours. The rink will be available for public use from Monday, October 30, 2000 through Sunday, March 11, 2001. Prices are $3 for adults; $2 for seniors, Hudson Valley alumni, and faculty and staff; and free for Hudson Valley students. Skate rentals are available for $3 per pair and helmets for $1.
The rink is available for public skate at the following times:
Monday-Friday, noon-2 p.m.*
Saturday-Sunday, 4 p.m.-6:15 p.m.*

Noon-2:15 p.m. and 4 p.m.-6:15 p.m.
The ice arena will be closed on the following dates:
Thursday, November 23: all day
Sunday, December 24: after 4 p.m.
Monday, December 25 & Monday, January 1: all day
Sat. & Sun., February 24 & 25: no recreational skating.
In some cases, organizations such as schools and religious groups may be interested in renting the arena for a private event. The ice is rented in 45-minute slots for $140. Insurance is required and dates are limited. Please call 629-4829 for more details.
Hudson Valley Community College's Physical Education Program offers an eight-week program (weekday mornings/16 hours of total instruction) for Beginning and Intermediate ice skates. This program earns college credit for individuals completing the class and community members are encouraged to enroll. Please call the Physical Education Department at 629-7232 for more details.
Weekend and evening skating lessons are offered through external clients renting ice at the college, and this information may be obtained by calling 629-4829. The skate shop at the arena offers 200 pairs of high-quality, well-maintained skates for rental. Size's range from a toddler's size 6 to a women's size 11 and a hockey men's size 14. Snack machines and video arcade are available to patrons.
Hudson Valley has discontinued birthday party/group skate during recreational skating periods.
