Cohoes Resident Wayne Simmons Honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Wayne Simmons of Cohoes, a 2002 graduate from Hudson Valley Community Mortuary Science program, was recently honored by the college.
Simmons, a dean's list and president's list student, was the recipient of the Mortuary Science Award for Outstanding Achievement in Embalming and the Capital District Funeral Directors Association Award for Excellence in Funeral Service.
Simmons is currently working at the W.J. Lyons Jr. funeral home in Rensselaer. He plans to receive his funeral directors license after serving his residency.
Simmons is a member and past president of the Pulaski Club in Watervliet and has served as a coach for Cohoes girls softball.
Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 10,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training.
