Meeting Set to Discuss Two Study Abroad Programs

Hudson Valley Community College will offer a new study abroad program to London and Dublin this spring, focusing on cultural diversity.

There will be a meeting to discuss the new program, as well as a previously existing study trip to Italy, at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29 in Meeting Room 3 of the Bulmer Telecommunications Building at Hudson Valley Community College. Guest speaker will be Colin Speakman, senior vice president of the American Institute for Foreign Study.

Assistant Professor Tamu Chambers-Hasan of Hudson Valley will conduct a new 25-day student excursion to London and Dublin late this spring, teaching the three-credit course, "Cultural Diversity in American Society," as part of the Diversity and Gender Studies Certificate Program. The trip will take place May 24 – June 17 and will cost $3,275, which includes round-trip airfare, accommodations, 30 meals, full-day excursions to Oxford, Stonehenge and Salisbury, two evening theater performances, guided tours of the British Museum and the East End of London, three nights in Dublin with half-day guided walking tour, and a full-day guided excursion to Glendalough and the Wicklow mountains.

Assistant Professor Thomas Lail will lead the study abroad program for fine arts students in Florence, Italy, where he will teach a three-credit course first introduced last year: "Experimental Drawing in Italy." His students will travel to Italy on May 22, returning on June 20. The program cost is $3,255, including round-trip airfare, accommodation, meal plan with 20 vouchers, three nights and breakfasts in a Rome hotel, visit to the Vatican, a welcome dinner, transfer to Florence, and a one-day excursion to Pisa and Lucca.
