Browser Requirements

If you are having trouble accessing or logging in to the secure area, the following guidelines may help you to resolve the problem.

Supported Web Browsers

Full functionality of Hudson Valley WIReD Online Enrollment System requires the use of one of the following web browsers. We cannot guarantee that browsers other than these will display the site as it was intended to be presented or function properly.

  • Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater
  • Netscape Navigator 6.02 or greater

To determine your browser and version, go to Help in the menu bar of your browser and select "About...".

Netscape Users:
The Hudson Valley WIReD System does not currently support Netscape Versions less than 6.02 browsers. If you currently use Netscape less than 6.02, it is recommended that you upgrade to the current version of Netscape or use Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater.

AOL Users:
The Hudson Valley WIReD System does not support the AOL Browser. You can connect through AOL as your dial-up provider, then open either Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape. Please see below for specific requirements.

Cookies

Cookies are required to log in to the site.

To adjust cookie settings:

In Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options. Click on the Security tab. Highlight the Internet zone and click on the custom level button. Scroll to the section labeled "Cookies". Make sure the options "Allow cookies that are stored on your computer" and "Allow per-session cookies" are enabled and click OK twice.

In Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.02 or greater, go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options. Click on the Privacy tab. Move the slider down to the level of "Accept all cookies" and click OK.

In Netscape Navigator 6.02/7.x, go to the Edit menu and select Preferences. Click on the arrow next to "Privacy & Security" and select "Cookies". On the right, choose the "Enable All Cookies" option and click OK.

Encryption

The security between your browser and the Hudson Valley WIReD System Web Server is ensured by using a browser that supports 128-bit encryption (Cipher Strength). You will not be able to access the Hudson Valley WIReD System unless your browser meets this requirement

To determine what level is supported by your browser:

Netscape Navigator 6.x/7.x - Go to the Help menu and select About Netscape. The statement "This version supports high-grade (128-bit) security with RSA Public Key Cryptography..." must be present. If your browser shows anything less than 128-bit, you must either upgrade to the current version of Netscape or use Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater capable of 128-bit encryption. Click on the "x" in the upper right-hand corner to exit About Netscape.

Internet Explorer 5.x/6.x - Go to the Help menu and select About Internet Explorer. The level of encryption will be shown next to "Cypher Strength". If your browser shows anything less than 128-bit, you must upgrade your browser. Click OK to exit the Help dialog box.

JavaScript

Javascript support must be enabled in your browser in order to access the secure area.

Browser Check:

To enable JavaScript in your browser:

In Netscape Navigator 6.02 - 7.x, go to the Edit menu and select Preferences. Click the arrow next to "Advanced" and select "Scripts & Plugins". Make sure the "Enable JavaScript for Navigator" box is checked and click OK.

In Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5/6.x, go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options. From the popup window, choose the Security tab. Highlight the "Internet" zone and then click on the custom level button. Scroll to the section labeled "Scripting" and make sure that "Active scripting" is enabled and click OK twice.

Temporary Internet Files/Cache

It is recommended that you empty your browser's temporary internet files/cache regularly in order to see the most current information available on the site.

To empty the cache in your browser:

In Netscape 6.02 - 7.x, go to the Edit menu and select Prefences. Click on the arrow next to the Advanced category and select "Cache". On the right, click on "Clear Memory Cache" and "Clear Disk Cache". Below this, make sure the setting "Compare the page in the cache to the page on the network" is set to "Every time I view the page " and click OK.

In Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x/6.x, go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options. On the General tab under Temporary Internet Files, click on the "Delete Files.." button. In the popup window, check the "Delete all Offline Content" check box and click OK. Next, click on the "Settings..." button. Make sure that "check for newer versions of stored pages" is set to "Every visit to the page" and click OK twice.
