Second Chance Scholarship Celebration Reception honoring Dr. Angelo Mastrangelo
June 8, 2007
Hudson Valley Community College hosted a reception on Thursday, June 7, 2007, in the Guenther Enrollment Services Center to honor Dr. Angelo Mastrangelo, founder of the college’s Second Chance Scholarship, for nearing the $1 million mark in total scholarships awarded. At the event, the college's Mastrangelo Financial Aid Center was renamed the Mastrangelo Financial Aid Center, in recognition of his generosity.
College faculty and staff joined Dr. Mastrangelo, his family and friends, as well as members of the Second Chance Scholarship Foundation board and past scholarship recipients at the event.
Dr. Mastrangelo, the former owner and chief executive officer of Adirondack Beverages, created a foundation in 1987 in honor of his father and father-in-law to provide scholarships to students who show fortitude and perseverance, often in the face of adversity, to pursue their education. The Second Chance Scholarships are merit based and provide up to $1,750 per semester in financial assistance.
The program started with just five scholarships and has grown to support 24 students annually. In the last 20 years, 426 Hudson Valley students have benefited from the scholarships. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation's Second Chance Scholarship Endowment Fund. To read more about Dr. Mastrangelo, click here.
