Hudson Valley To Host On-Campus Race

TROY, NY – Students from Hudson Valley Community
College's Introduction to Engineering Design class will race vehicles that
they designed and built.
WHEN: 6:30 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 5, 2001.
WHERE: Cogan Hall, Room 153 (Senior Automotive Lab), Hudson Valley
Community College, 80 Vandenburgh Avenue, Troy NY.
WHAT: The Introduction to Engineering Design students will race
their vehicles on a cement, figure-eight-shaped track while wearing helmets,
safety glasses, elbow pads and gloves.
WHY: The vehicles, which can measure no larger than four-feet
long by three-feet wide, must incorporate an elastic material for energy
and motion. They cannot harbor any stored energy or springs, and the drivers
cannot use their feet or legs to power the vehicles. Each team will cover
the course twice, and the team with the lowest elapsed time will be considered
