Rensselaer Resident Jan Geyer Receives President’s Award At Hudson Valley Community College

Jan Geyer of Rensselaer, a faculty member at Hudson Valley Community College, was recently honored with the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching at the college.

Geyer began her career at Hudson Valley in 2003 in the English, Foreign Languages and English as a Second Language Department and was promoted to assistant professor in 2010. She teaches English Composition, Public Speaking and Literature into Film at the college.

Five other faculty and staff members were named recipients of the President’s Award for Excellence for 2014. The award is given to those who have shown exemplary service to the college and its students. Honorees are nominated by students and colleagues.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 75 degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of nearly 13,000 students and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. Hudson Valley has more than 75,000 alumni.
