FOR RELEASE: Immediate, Thursday, April 3, 2014
Hudson Valley Community College is offering a free, hands-on workshop on college financial aid from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 9 in the college's Bulmer Telecommunications Center auditorium.
Prospective college students and family members are invited to learn about financial aid eligibility and how to apply for federal/state aid and scholarships. The college’s Financial Aid staff will answer questions and help interested attendees file online the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
All families are welcome to attend the financial aid workshop, not just those with students considering Hudson Valley. Online event registration is requested at www.hvcc.edu/finaid/workshops. A live Webcast will be streamed from the same Web site during the event.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, for two-year institutions, the percentage of first-time, full-time undergraduate students receiving aid increased from 67 percent in 2006-07 to 77 percent in 2010-11. At SUNY campuses throughout New York, 75 percent of all full-time undergraduates receive some form of grant, loan or employment assistance.
