The "Viking" logo of Hudson Valley Community College will be painted on the top layer of new ice at the college's Conway Ice Arena at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25.
In preparation for the Conway Arena's opening on Saturday, Oct. 27, facility employees began building early this week. Employee Jay Bonesteel will paint the Viking head and Hudson Valley Community College logos to the center of the fresh ice surface in the final step of the process.
The college will offer free admission during public skating hours this weekend, but will have canisters available for donations to support victims of New York City's Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Skate rental fees of $3 will be in effect.
Public skating will be offered from 4 – 6:15 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday, and from noon to 2 p.m. on weekdays.
Hudson Valley's men's hockey team will host last year's NJCAA champs from SUNY Canton at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 3, in the season's first face-off in Conway Arena.
Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the SUNY system, it has an enrollment of more than 9,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning and workforce training.
