The Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAR) Degree Program at Hudson Valley prepares students for transfer to a four-year liberal arts education at significantly lower cost than the first two years at most four-year colleges. The Liberal Arts Honors Program, offered through the LAR program, offers qualified students additional individualized attention, capstone classes, field trips, opportunities for independent research, and more. The Individual Studies Department at Hudson Valley serves a wide range of student needs from pre-med students looking to design a flexible curriculum, to students still fulfilling requirements to enter an associate's degree program. It is the college's most popular major.

Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 9,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training.
