Hudson Valley Community College to Host Special Instant Admission Day for Veterans, Active Military and Volunteer Firefighters on Nov. 15

CONTACT: Eric Bryant (518) 629-8072, e.bryant@hvcc.edu

The college will host a special Instant Admission Day for veterans, active members of the military and volunteer firefighters on Thursday, Nov. 15 from noon to 6 p.m. in the Guenther Enrollment Services Center.

Instant Admission Days allow students to be accepted on the spot for an upcoming semester. Those interested in enrolling should bring their academic records from high school, GED or college. Students who want to begin the financial aid process should bring their latest tax returns as well.

Hudson Valley Community College recently was designated a Military Friendly School for 2013 by G.I. Jobs magazine. This designation, which the college has received for the past three years, places the college in the top 15 percent of 7,000 colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide in fulfilling its mission to educate military service personnel and veterans.

Active duty service members or veterans who wish to speak to someone at the college about their benefits may call (518) 629-4545. Those who wish to enroll in a degree or certificate program may call the admissions office at (518) 629-7309.

Capital Region volunteer firefighters are also eligible for the Instant Admission Day because of a recent scholarship opportunity initiated by the Firemen’s Association of New York, which provides tuition reimbursement to individuals attending community college for up to 80 credit hours.

Under the FASNY Higher Education Learning Plan (HELP), student-volunteers are eligible to have up to 100 percent of their tuition reimbursed in exchange for maintaining their grades and fulfilling defined service requirements. They must be a “member in good standing” in one of New York’s volunteer fire companies during both their school years and service payback period. For more information about FASNY HELP, contact John D’Alessandro at (855) 367-6933.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 70 degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 13,500 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. Hudson Valley has more than 65,000 alumni.
