FOR RELEASE: Immediate, Aug. 24, 2012

Hudson Valley Community College’s Faculty Student Association is launching a capital campaign to fund the construction of a $3 million state-of-the-art synthetic turf field and track and field complex. The college’s Student Senate has provided a leadership gift of $250,000 to kickoff the fundraising efforts.

To be located on the site of the current soccer/lacrosse and football fields, the complex will serve the college’s athletics teams, the intramural sports program, children’s summer camps and Physical Education degree program. The football, lacrosse and men's and women's soccer teams will have new homes on the field. In addition, the facility will allow Hudson Valley to host regional, statewide and national competitions in a variety of sports on both the high school and college level, and it will be open for public use on a scheduled basis. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2014.

The complex will feature a 400-meter, eight-lane track surrounding the synthetic turf field, a natural grass practice field, grandstands, bleachers, a scoreboard and sports lighting, and a concession building. It will place Hudson Valley’s athletic facilities among the most well-equipped community colleges in the nation and provide the quality and caliber of athletic fields that prospective students look for when making college choices.

Hudson Valley has more than 300 student-athletes participating in 16 NJCAA sports, including women’s golf, softball, tennis and volleyball; men’s baseball, football, ice hockey and lacrosse; men’s and women’s basketball, bowling, cross country and soccer. Its Athletics program is supported by the Faculty Student Association of Hudson Valley Community College, Inc., a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation established to run the auxiliary services on campus and to enhance student life. This self-sustaining organization continually reinvests its funds to make improvements and support initiatives which benefit the entire Hudson Valley community.
