FOR RELEASE: Immediate, Friday, Oct. 8, 2010
Don't add your old computer equipment or that fax machine to our overburdened waste stream. Recycle them and other electronics at Hudson Valley Community College on Friday, October 29 from noon to 5 p.m. in the Overflow Parking Lot, just off Route 4.
This service is being offered free of charge, except for a $10 fee per television and a $5 fee per computer monitor. The college's Sustainability Committee is working in conjunction with Regional Computer Recycling and Recovery to recycle in an environmentally sound fashion the lead solder, cadmium, beryllium, lead and other hazardous wastes found in electronics. Plastic components are reused in new products.
- Items accepted at this event are: computers and computer equipment, cell phones, PDAs, IPODs, wires and cables, typewriters, fax machines, televisions, toner/inkjet cartridges and batteries, circuit boards, audio/visual equipment, video game systems and universal power supplies.
- Items not accepted are: air conditioners, liquids, fluorescent bulbs, refrigerators or dehumidifiers.
