Laurie Matala from Melrose honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Melrose resident Laurie Matala was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Matala was named to the Phi Theta Kappa All New York State Academic Team, which is an honor given to the top two-year college students in the state who are members of Phi Theta Kappa, the international academic honor society for students at two-year colleges.

Matala, an honors student, received a degree in Business-Accounting this year.


Daniel Mayfield from Buffalo honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Buffalo resident Daniel W. Mayfield was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Mayfield was honored for Outstanding Achievement and Academic Excellence in Mortuary Science. The award is given to an outstanding student in the Mortuary Science program.

Mayfield was an honors graduate, having maintained a grade point average of 3.5 or higher throughout his studies at the college.


Kristen McCormick from East Greenbush honored at Hudson Valley Community College

East Greenbush resident Kristen McCormick was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

McCormick was the recipient of the Third District Dental Society Dental Hygiene Scholarship, which is given to an outstanding student in the Dental Hygiene program. The academic program is part of the college's School of Health Sciences.

McCormick is a 2010 graduate of the Dental Hygiene program.


Chelsea Mieske from Kinderhook honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Kinderhook resident Chelsea Mieske was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Mieske was the recipient of the Sage Transfer Award, which is given to an outstanding student in the Physical Education Studies program who plans to transfer to the Sage College of Albany.


Joseph Miskewicz from Loudonville honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Loudonville resident Joseph Miskewicz was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Miskewicz was the recipient of the American Society of Civil Engineers Outstanding Student Award, which is given to an outstanding graduating student in the Civil Engineering Technology program. The academic program is part of the college's School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies.


Nicole Monsees from Clifton Park honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Clifton Park resident Nicole Monsees was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Monsees was the recipient of the The William Keck Scholarship, which is given to an outstanding graduating student by the faculty in the English, Modern Languages and English As A Second Language Department. She graduated this year with a degree in Liberal Arts and Science: Humanities and Social Science.


Bridget Mooney from Cohoes honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Cohoes resident Bridget Mooney was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Mooney was the recipient of the Kenneth M. Barber Award for Excellence in Experimental Physics, which is given to an outstanding student by the faculty in the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Department. She is enrolled in the Individual Studies program at the college.


Ryan Morris from Rotterdam Junction honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Rotterdam Junction resident Ryan L. Morris was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Morris, an honors graduate in the Dental Hygiene program, was given the Dental Hygiene Academic Achievement Award and the Gerard A. Ripp Memorial Award from the Hudson Mohawk Chapter of the American College of Dentists. Both awards are given to an outstanding graduate from the college's Dental Hygiene program. Morris also was honored with the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, which is given to outstanding students from across the state university system.

Morris also was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international academic honor society for students at two-year colleges.


Kassidi Morrison from Schenectady honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Schenectady resident Kassidi Morrison was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Morrison was the recipient of the Dental Hygiene Association of the State of New York: President's Award for Excellence, which is given to an outstanding student in the Dental Hygiene program. The academic program is part of the college's School of Health Sciences.

An honors graduate, Morrison was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international academic honor society for students at two-year colleges.


Donna Murray from Watervliet honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Watervliet resident Donna Murray was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Murray was the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement and Academic Excellence in Mortuary Science, an honor which is given to an outstanding graduating student in the Mortuary Science program. The academic program is part of the college's School of Health Sciences.

Nigro was given the High Achievement in Chemistry Laboratory Award, which is given to an outstanding student by faculty in the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Department. He is a non-matriculated student at the college.

Colonie resident Anastasia Novikov was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Novikov was the recipient of the Academic Achievement in Anatomy and Physiology Award, which is given to an outstanding student by faculty in the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Department. Novikov is in the Biological Sciences degree program at the college.

Schenectady resident Keith Olmer was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Olmer was the recipient of the Seton Health Systems Award for Academic Excellence, which is given to an outstanding graduating student in the Nursing program.

Olmer is an honors graduate and was also a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international academic honor society for students at two-year colleges.

Piser, who graduated this year from the Individual Studies program, was the recipient of the The Donna Costello Memorial Scholarsip Award for Excellence in Psychology. The award is given to an outstanding student studying psychology by the faculty in the History, Philosophy and Social Sciences Department.

Altamont resident Michael J. Plouffe was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Plouffe was the recipient of the Electrical Construction and Maintenance Club Award for Academic Excellence, which is given to an outstanding graduating student in the Electrical Construction and Maintenance program. The academic program is part of the college's School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies.

Plouffe was an honors graduate of the program, having earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher during his studies.

Rigney was an honors graduate of the program, having earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher during his studies.

Clifton Park resident Matthew John Sekellick was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Sekellick was honored for Academic Excellence and Outstanding Service in the Theatre Arts Program. The award is given to the most outstanding graduating student in the college's new Theatre Arts degree program.

Sekellick was an honors graduate and also was chosen to receive the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, one of the highest honors award to a student at a SUNY college or university.


Kara Sheldon from Rensselaer honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Rensselaer resident Kara Sheldon was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Sheldon was the recipient of the The English Department Four L Award: Celebrating Language, Literature, Learning and Laughter, which is given to an outstanding student by the faculty in the English, Modern Languages and English As A Second Language Department. The recipient must have completed at least four courses offered by the department and received an outstanding grade in each course.

Sheldon was an honors graduate from the Liberal arts and Science: Humanities and Social Science program.


Gretchen Shope from Westerlo honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Westerlo resident Gretchen Shope was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Shope was the recipient of the Seton Health Systems Award for Oncology Nursing, which is given to an outstanding student graduating from the Nursing program. The academic program is part of the college's School of Health Sciences.


Rachel Smith from Valatie honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Valatie resident Rachel Helen Smith was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Smith was the recipient of the Stephen L. Hyatt Award, which is given to one of the most outstanding graduating students by the faculty from the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Department. She also was honored for Academic Achievement in Anatomy and Physiology by her faculty.

An honors graduate of the college's Biotechnology program, Smith was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international academic honor society for students at two-year colleges.


Sarah Smith from Averill Park honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Averill Park resident Sarah E. Smith was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Smith was the recipient of the Excellence in Political Science Award, which is given to an outstanding student by faculty from the History, Philosophy and Social Sciences Department.

Smith is a 2010 honors graduate from the college's Individual Studies program.

Sorriento was the recipient of the Award for Academic Excellence in Teacher Preparation, which is given to an outstanding graduating student in the Early Childhood program.

Sorriento was an honors student, having completed her course of study with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Wynantskill resident Carlo Sorriento was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Sorriento was honored for Academic Achievement in Freshman Chemistry, which is given to an outstanding student by faculty from the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Department.

Sorriento is enrolled in the Chemical Technician degree program at the college.

Spataro was the recipient of The Theodore H. Whyland English Award, which is given to an outstanding graduating student by faculty from the English, Modern Languages and English As A Second Language Department.

Chatham resident Preeti Verma was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Verma was the recipient of the Excellence in Business Administration Award, which is given to the most outstanding graduating student from the Business Administration program. The academic program is part of the college's School of Business.

Verma graduated with honors, having achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the duration of her studies.

Vincent was the recipient of the St. Peter's Hospital Award for Professionalism, which is given to an outstanding graduating student in the Nursing program.

Ballston Lake resident Lauren Wadsworth was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Wadsworth, an honors graduate, was the recipient of the Colgate Student Total Achievement Recognition Award, which is given to an outstanding graduating student in the Dental Hygiene program. The academic program is part of the college's School of Health Sciences.


Carol Walkley from East Greenbush honored at Hudson Valley Community College

East Greenbush resident Carol Walkley was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Walkley was the recipient of the Threads Writing Award, which is given to an outstanding student by the faculty of the English, Modern Languages and English As A Second Language Department. The award is given to the student who submits the most compelling and well-written work of fiction or poetry to the college's student literary journal, Threads. Walkley is studying Liberal Arts at the college.


Brian Wassink from Waterford honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Waterford resident Brian Wassink was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Wassink, an honors graduate, was the recipient of the Northern Industrial Services Award, which is given to an outstanding graduating student in the college's Manufacturing Technical Systems program. The academic program is part of the college's School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies.


Tyler Waterhouse from Altamont honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Altamont resident Tyler Waterhouse was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Waterhouse was the recipient of the GE Scholarship, which is given to an outstanding student in the college's School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies.

Waterhouse is studying Mechanical Engineering Technology at the college.


Julie Watts from Albany honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Albany resident Julie Watts was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Watts was honored for Academic Achievement in Microbiology, which is given to an outstanding student by the faculty of the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Department. The academic program is part of the college's School of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Watts is enrolled in the Individual Studies program at the college.


Caleb Weaver from Greenwich honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Greenwich resident Caleb Weaver was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Weaver was the recipient of the Clarkson Achievement Award, which is given to an outstanding student in the college's Engineering Science program who plans to continue his education at Clarkson University.


Douglas Wilkinson from Latham honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Latham resident Douglas Wilkinson was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Wilkinson was the recipient of the Northeast Ventilator Respiratory Care Student of the Year Award, which is given to the most outstanding graduating student in the Respiratory Care program.

He also was honored with the Doris and Hy Rosenblum Consideration Award, which is given to a student who has shown excellence in community and college service. Wilkinson graduated with honors, having achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the duration of his studies.


Tyler Williamson from Ballston Spa honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Ballston Spa resident Tyler Williamson was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Williamson was the recipient of the Sage Transfer Award, which is given to an outstanding student in the Physical Education Studies program who plans to transfer to the Sage College of Albany.


Mackenzie Wilsey from Schoharie honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Schoharie resident Mackenzie Wilsey was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Wilsey was the recipient of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Scheper Scholarship, which is given to an outstanding graduating student in the college's Engineering Science program.

Wilsey graduated with honors, having achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the duration of his studies. She also was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international academic honor society for students at two-year colleges.


Jennifer Zaccaria from Rexford honored at Hudson Valley Community College

Rexford resident Jennifer Zaccaria was recently honored for academic excellence at Hudson Valley Community College.

Zaccaria was honored for Academic Excellence in Biology/Chemistry. The award is given to an outstanding student by faculty of the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Department.

Zaccaria is studying Biological Sciences at the college.
