Schenectady Resident Promoted At Hudson Valley Community College Photo Available

Richard E. Bennett III of Schenectady has been appointed associate dean of continuing education, summer sessions and workforce development at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York.

Bennett, who has been with the college since 1989, will oversee the college's evening and summer session courses and academic advisement for non-matriculated students. He also will have oversight of the college's Workforce Development Institute, which provides credit-free training for those who are looking for skills training for new jobs or for advancement in their chosen careers. Bennett previously served as director of continuing education, summer sessions and workforce development and as assistant director in the same department.

He serves on the Boards of Directors for the Watervliet Arsenal Partnership, the Central Avenue Business Improvement District in Albany, and the Catholic Charities Office of Community Development for the Capital Region. Bennett earned a master's in education degree at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 70 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Liberal Arts and Sciences; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Business, as well as non-credit workforce development programs. In addition, programs are run through the Educational Opportunities Center, which offers certification programs in workforce and academic preparation. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 12,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining.
