FOR RELEASE: Immediate, Monday, Sept. 15, 2008
Hudson Valley Community College’s Workforce Development Institute, (WDI), will offer its first-ever online training option this fall. The Pharmacy Technician National Exam Preparation Course: Online, is for those interested in beginning a career in pharmacy as pharmacy technicians.
This non-credit course is conducted exclusively online and can provide students with the flexibility to learn on their own schedule. Students will complete all coursework using their computer and a connection to the Internet. This course provides self-motivated students with the opportunity to prepare for the Pharmacy Technician National Examination. It is suitable for those who have no experience in a pharmacy setting, as well as for pharmacy technicians preparing for the national exam, and for first-year pharmacy students looking for practical work experience.
“We’re particularly pleased to kick off our first foray into online courses with the Pharmacy Technician National Exam Preparation Course,” said Rich Bennett, director of the Workforce Development Institute. “This will provide a great, convenient training opportunity in a growing field for individuals who might find it difficult to travel to a traditional training
site. It will also allow first-year pharmacy students a chance to get
ahead, without interfering with their current course of study.”
In addition to the new online course, the WDI continues to offer its 107-hour classroom course for training pharmacy technicians. This course, held in the WDI’s mock pharmacy at the College’s Albany Extension Center, includes a hands-on 18-hour lab/internship in a CVS store with the course instructor. Like the online course, the classroom course is designed to prepare students for the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE).
The WDI’s Pharmacy Technician training programs have been developed in collaboration with CVS/Pharmacy, which provides continual technical assistance, to ensure accurate and up-to-date pharmaceutical and program information. Registration for the fall courses are being accepted now.
