On Thursday, May 3, head coach Vince
Medici and his Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team will
raise money for Lauren Nicoll and her family. Lauren, 11 months
old, has been diagnosed with brain cancer. The Vikings will host a
free throw shooting contest from 6 to 9 p.m. on May 3, at Hudson Valley's
McDonough Sports Complex, with all proceeds going to the Lauren's
family. Lauren's father, Gary, is an area basketball official.
The contest is open to all ages, with the competition
being broken into age groups. Prizes will be awarded to the top three shooters
in each category (male and female). The top prize is free tuition to an
area basketball camp.
Registration is $5. Hudson Valley's basketball players,
who posted a 22-7 record in 2000-01, will run the event, and items will
be raffled off.
Hudson Valley Community College, located in
Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic
divisions; Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences;
and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State
University of New York system, Hudson Valley Community College has an enrollment
of more than 9,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance
learning initiatives and worker retraining.
