Foundation Golf Classic Nets More Than $64,000 for Hudson Valley Community College

The Hudson Valley Community College Foundation's 13th annual Golf Classic, held Monday, July 23 at the Country Club of Troy, netted more than $64,000, a record for the event. This year the Golf Classic had more sponsors and more players than any prior Golf Classic. A total of $105,332 was raised through the event, with net funds used to benefit scholarships, programs, student services and facilities at Hudson Valley Community College.
This is the fourth year in a row that the event has netted and grossed more money than the year before. In fact, gross proceeds from the event have increased by 34.1 percent in three years, and net proceeds from the event have increased by 27.8 percent in three years.
"The growing success of our golf tournament is a testament to the fact that the college plays an integral role in the Capital Region economy," said Foundation President Sarah M. Boggess, who also serves as the college's vice president for institutional advancement. "We generate a well-trained workforce: Tens of thousands of our graduates work for Capital Region employers, and thousands of other employees in the region have received some kind of training from us. In addition, the college is an economic engine in itself, with an annual budget exceeding $80 million."
"Corporate support is crucial to community colleges across the country, and Hudson Valley Community College is no exception. If business leaders wish to advance Tech Valley, it is in their best interest to assist in providing resources to Hudson Valley Community College," Boggess added.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Foundation's Annual Fund, which assists the college in meeting unmet needs and seizing unexpected opportunities. In the past, golf classic proceeds have funded scholarships, technology enhancement, campus beautification and special programs for disabled students.

More than 170 golfers participated in the event. A foursome representing the Times Union – Matt Clarke, Mike Danieli, Vince Pennisi and Al Riccardi – won the Trustees' Cup, which is presented to the foursome with the lowest gross score; the foursome had a score of 57. Another foursome – Arien Cartrette, Joe Daley, Albert Hanley and Steve Frazee – won the President's Cup, which is presented to the foursome with the lowest net score; that foursome had a score of 55.
The Foundation is a not-for-profit charitable corporation formed in 1983 to philanthropically support the college's mission. Gifts to the Foundation from alumni, corporations and friends are used to enhance programs, facilities and scholarship opportunities at the college.
Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 70 associate's degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and workforce and academic preparation programs offered through the Educational Opportunity Center. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 12,000 students, and it is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining. Hudson Valley has more than 60,000 alumni.
