Beginning next month, the Community Education Office at Hudson Valley Community College is proud to offer Beginning Swing by The Most Dangerous Swing Lesson. The course will be taught by Lisa Christina and Adrian Warnock-Graham, popular local dance instructors who train with dancers of international caliber. The popular new class is filling quickly, and perspective registrants are urged to call now to reserve a space in the class.
The six-week class will be held on Thursday evenings from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. beginning Feb. 8 and running through March 15. The class will be held in MCD 192, the multi-purpose room in the McDonough Sports Complex, on the Hudson Valley campus, 80 Vandenburgh Ave., Troy. The cost is only $45 for six weeks of instruction. For more information, call 629-7339.
If you've always wanted to try jitterbug or lindy, this is the class to get you started. Learn basic steps from the original swing dance of the ‘20s and ‘30s as well as ways to get creative on the dance floor. Lots of style, lots of groove, tons of fun, with two of the most enthusiastic instructors around. No partner or experience necessary. Bring soft-soled, comfortable shoes or sneakers and a water bottle.
Adrian and Lisa have been performing and teaching together for two years as the Capital Region's Most Dangerous Swing Lesson. Each studied dance and music independently for several years before after meeting in an Albany swing club. Together, they have studied with many world-class Lindy Hop and swing instructors, including Steven Mitchell, Sweden's Rhythm Hot Shots and Paul Overton and Sharon Ashe. They are known for their creativity, energy and enthusiasm as they share their love for Swing and Lindy Hop. Adrian and Lisa will be featured dancers and instructors at the upcoming 40th Birthday Bash for Albany Symphony Orchestra conductor David Alan Miller at the Armory Center on Friday, Feb. 16 (call 465-4755 for more info). They have been featured performers at several Empire State Plaza swing events, First Night Albany, and many other local venues.
