Hudson Valley Community College Director of Athletics Drew Marrochello has resigned from the college to take an associate athletic director's position at Boston University.
Marrochello has served as athletic director since 1997; he began working at Hudson Valley in 1993, as an academic coordinator. The college has begun a search for his replacement.
"I am excited about the new challenges that lie ahead for me at Boston University," Marrochello said. "Hudson Valley has been a great place for me and is a place I'll never forget. I've been fortunate to work with some exceptional coaches and staff members, who will lead the program to continued success long after I am gone."
During Marrochello's tenure as athletic director, Hudson Valley's teams have combined to win 31 conference championships, 11 Region III titles and one national championship. Ten of Hudson Valley's 14 varsity teams have won either a regional or conference championship under his leadership. From 1997 to 2005, 40 Hudson Valley student-athletes have garnered All-American honors.
Along with the accomplishments on the field, Marrochello has guided a program that has excelled academically. Thirty-two student-athletes have reached Academic All-American status since 1997. During the last two school-years, Hudson Valley's lacrosse, volleyball, softball and tennis teams earned the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year award for having a cumulative team grade point average above 3.0. In addition, three Hudson Valley student-athletes were presented the prestigious SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence in 2005. The award was presented to only 264 students from 60 SUNY campuses across the state.
"Hudson Valley's athletic program has thrived under Drew Marrochello's leadership – during his nine-year tenure, the Vikings have won more than 40 championships," Hudson Valley President Andrew J. Matonak, Ed.D. said. "But more importantly, our student-athletes have a great reputation for excelling in the classroom, as well as on the field – and that will be Drew's lasting legacy."
Marrochello was named the Region III Athletic Director of the year for the 2003-04 season by his peers at the 29 Region III colleges, and recently was awarded the 2005 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Professional Service.
He also has served as president of the Mountain Valley Conference, commissioner of the Northeast Football Conference and on various regional and national committees.
Originally from Arlington, Mass., Marrochello received his bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University and his master's degree from the University at Albany.
