Hudson Valley Community College Health Director Honored by American College Health Association

Janet Atwater of Stephentown, the director of the college health service at Hudson Valley Community College, recently received the Ruth E. Boynton Award for outstanding service to the American College Health Association.
Atwater has been the director of the college health service since 1983. Hudson Valley is one of only two community colleges in the country whose health service has received accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.
She has been an active member of the ACHA since joining the organization in 1979, serving on its board of directors and in other leadership positions. Atwater, a certified nurse practitioner, also served as president, secretary and program chair of the New York State College Health Association. She was also asked to participate in the national Roundtable on Community College Health and Safety: Preventing Substance Abuse and Violence and as a state representative on college substance abuse prevention to the federal Department of Education.
Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 60 degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 12,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. Hudson Valley has more than 60,000 alumni.
