From dancing and softball to basketball and theater, area youth will have a variety of camp activities to choose from this summer at Hudson Valley Community College.
The college announced its summer camp schedule, which includes two brand new offerings – a Junior Counselor Preparation program for those entering eighth and ninth grades, and a Summer Youth Theater Workshop, for those ages 10 to 13.
Registration begins March 31. For more information about any of the college’s camp offerings, call 518-629-7339.
Junior Counselor Preparation is a two-week program for individuals interested in preparing themselves for future employment in a camp setting or as a babysitter. The program includes training sessions in teamwork, child management techniques, first aid, CPR, elementary and secondary games, and children’s activities. Participants also will shadow an experienced counselor in our Summer Educational Enrichment Program and will assist with program activities throughout the second week. Registration is limited to 15 students per session, which will run in two-week sessions from June 27 through August 19.
The Summer Youth Theater Workshop, a two-week program from August 1 through August 12, will take participants through the entire process of producing a musical theater piece, from creating the characters, writing the script, and developing songs, to rehearsing and performing in the final production, which will take place on the last day of the workshop. No experience is required, just a desire to jump in and put on a show.
The college also will be offering the very popular Summer Educational Enrichment Program, a day camp that combines fun and educational activities for children entering grades 1 through grade 7. Children are paired in small groups by age and move with an assigned counselor through content areas that include Character Education, Computers, Math Fun, Language Arts/Social Studies, Physical Education and Science. The one-week camp sessions begin June 27 and will end August 12 for those entering first grade. Sessions run through August 19 for all other Summer Educational Enrichment Program campers.
Summer Athletics Camps at Hudson Valley Community College will include the Adventure Program, Basketball, Dance, Golf, Soccer, Softball and Tennis. Each camp is under the direction of a head coach and provides low coach-to-camper ratios for developing interest and skills. Campers will be divided into groups according to age and ability.
