Michael Scheuttig of Troy, a 2004 honors graduate of the Liberal Arts and Science – Mathematics and Science program at Hudson Valley Community College, recently received the George Baker Award, which is awarded each year to an outstanding Mathematics and Science student.

He plans to continue his education this fall at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he will study chemical engineering. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for students at two-year colleges, and was a President's List student for two semesters at Hudson Valley.

Scheuttig also was chosen for inclusion in the National Dean's List.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 50 degree and certification programs in four academic divisions: Liberal Arts and Sciences; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Business; as well as programs run through the Educational Opportunity Center offering certification programs in workforce and academic preparation. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 11,000 students, and it is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining. Hudson Valley has nearly 60,000 alumni.
