"Tim and Morgan symbolize what great student-athletes should be: They are exceptional athletes, excellent students and model citizens," Hudson Valley Director of Athletics Drew Marrochello said.
Vittengl, a sophomore Individual Studies major, was a two-year starting tackle for the Hudson Valley football team. He earned First Team All-Northeast Football Conference honors and Second Team All-American accolades in 2003. Vittengl helped lead Hudson Valley to a conference championship and a trip to The Graphic Edge Bowl last season. He will attend the University of Massachusetts in the fall.
Kindlon, a sophomore Individual Studies major, earned Second Team All-Conference and Third Team All-Region III honors in 2003-04. He averaged 12.7 points and 1.9 assists per game, and netted 73 three-point buckets on the season. A team captain, Kindlon finished his two-year Hudson Valley career with 573 points and 109 three-point baskets.
In all, 57 students from 26 State University campuses who competed in 27 different sports with a collective grade point average of 3.6 were honored.
"The Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award embodies the concept of hard work, dedication and success," SUNY Chancellor Robert L. King said. "We are extremely proud of these student's accomplishments and for serving as role models for their fellow student-athletes as well as the many children across New York who look up to them."
The Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award recognizes a combination of academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement at the Division I, Division III and NJCAA levels.
Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 11,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training.
