Scotia-Glenville Wins Viking Challenge

Scotia-Glenville High School took first place at the eighth annual Viking Challenge, a fast-paced general knowledge test for teams of student participants, hosted by Hudson Valley Community College.

Each member of the winning team - Doug Vanderwerken, Valerie Shank and Mike Heise - received a $500 scholarship to attend Hudson Valley. The team also won a Pentium-level for their school.
The Academy of Holy Names finished in second place followed by Colonie High School. Averill Park High School, La Salle Institute, Schuylerville High School, Troy High School and Voorheesville High School also competed. Each team consisted of three students.
Every member of the top three teams received a scientific multifunction calculator donated by Jim LaGatta, acting vice president for administration at Hudson Valley. Each of the top three schools also received Encarta Reference software donated by Interactive Solutions, and a Trivial Pursuit CD-ROM.
