Hudson Valley Community College Foundation Awards Scholarships to 18 Students

The Hudson Valley Community College Foundation recently awarded more than $10,000 in scholarships to 18 students from Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga and Schenectady counties.

The Foundation is a not-for-profit charitable corporation formed in 1983 to philanthropically support the college's mission. Gifts to the Foundation from alumni, businesses, faculty, staff and friends are used to enhance programs, facilities and scholarship opportunities at the college. The scholarship recipients are:

Davy King of Albany. The Nursing student was one of two recipients of a $300 Continuing Education Scholarship, which is supported by the Faculty Staff Endowment Fund at Hudson Valley.

Brandon Stanfield of Albany. The Construction Technology student received two scholarships: the $360 Alumni Legacy Scholarship and the $250 Hazel Hayes Atwater Memorial Scholarship.

Megan Carpentier of Averill Park. The Individual Studies student received the $250 Dr. Lawrence Emil Porcelli Memorial Scholarship.

Dominic Padula of Averill Park. The Engineering Science student was one of two recipients of the Senator Joseph L. Bruno Public Service Scholarship. The scholarship pays for full tuition at Hudson Valley.

Scott Michaels of Berlin. The Automotive Technology student received a $1,000 scholarship from Albany Rods & Kustoms, Inc.

Paul Albertine from Castleton. The Individual Studies student received the $890 Aimee Lynn Pyskadlo Memorial Scholarship.

William Fink from Castleton-on-Hudson. The Electrical Construction and Maintenance student received the $300 Rensselaer County Association of Town Superintendents of Highways High School Scholarship.

Sandra Geremia of Clifton Park. The Respiratory Therapy student received the $670 Elizabeth K. Ripple Memorial Scholarship.

Ryan Hotaling of Clifton Park. The Electrical Construction and Maintenance student received the $415 Kenneth P. LaCorte Memorial Scholarship.

R. Grace Dillon of Delmar. The Computer Information Systems student received the $375 Class of 1993 Scholarship, which was established as the class's senior class gift.

Garrett Murphy of Gansevoort. The Automotive Technology student received the $500 scholarship awarded by the Automobilists of the Upper Hudson Valley in memory of John A. English.

Antwan Henry of Rensselaer. The Computer Information Systems/Business student received a $250 Hazel Hayes Atwater Memorial Scholarship.

Judith Dion of Saratoga Springs. The Nursing student received a $300 Continuing Education Scholarship.

Shalah Dawley of Schuylerville. The Math and Science student received the $315 Parents Fund Scholarship.

Kevin Sisk of Scotia. The Automotive Technology student received the $1,000 Michael D. Tisencheck Memorial Scholarship.

Shaina Devine of Troy. The Criminal Justice student received the $545 Raymond J. Stastny Memorial Scholarship.

Cathy Hamilton of Troy. The Human Services student received the $605 Patty Walsh '92 Memorial Scholarship.

Holly Worthington of Waterford. The Early Childhood Education student received the Senator Joseph L. Bruno Public Service Scholarship, which provides the recipient with full tuition.

The current annual cost of tuition at Hudson Valley Community College for full-time students who are New York State residents is $2,500.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 50 degree and certification programs in four academic divisions: Liberal Arts and Sciences; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Business; as well as programs run through the Educational Opportunity Center offering certification programs in workforce and academic preparation.
