Palmara Named New English Department Chairperson at Hudson Valley Community College

Image of Maria PalmaraDr. Maria Palmara of Albany has been appointed chairperson of the English, Modern Languages, and English as a Second Language department at Hudson Valley Community College.

Palmara has been at the college since 1992 and has taught a variety of courses for the department, including writing, literature, and English as a Second Language.

Palmara earned a Ph.D. in English and an M.S. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from The University at Albany and a bachelor's degree in English from SUNY New Paltz. In 1987, while on a Fulbright at Uladag University in Bursa, Turkey, she coordinated the writing program and taught English as a Foreign Language Teaching Methodology.

Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions; Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, Hudson Valley has an enrollment of more than 11,000 students each year.
