Palmara Named New English Department Chairperson at Hudson Valley Community College

Dr. Maria Palmara of Albany has been appointed chairperson of the
English, Modern Languages, and English as a Second Language department
at Hudson Valley Community College.
Palmara has been at the college since 1992 and has taught a variety of
courses for the department, including writing, literature, and English
as a Second Language.
Palmara earned a Ph.D. in English and an M.S. in Teaching English to
Speakers of Other Languages from The University at Albany and a
bachelor's degree in English from SUNY New Paltz.
In 1987, while on a Fulbright at Uladag University in Bursa, Turkey, she
coordinated the writing program and taught English as a Foreign Language
Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50
degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions; Business;
Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal
Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State University
of New York system, Hudson Valley has an enrollment of more than 11,000
students each year.
