Scarchilli Honored As Distinguished Alum At Hudson Valley Community College

John M. Scarchilli of Latham, chief executive officer of Pioneer Savings Bank, was presented with Hudson Valley Community College's Distinguished Alumnus Award at a luncheon on Wednesday, May 21.
A 1974 graduate of Hudson Valley Community College, Scarchilli is a lifelong Capital Region resident. Prior to attending Hudson Valley, he served in the Army as a survey specialist. After graduating from Hudson Valley, he earned a bachelor's degree from Siena College.
Scarchilli joined Pioneer Savings Bank (a $615 million mutual savings bank headquartered in Troy) as an assistant auditor in 1977, and, after rising through the bank's ranks, he was designated as CEO and elected to the Board of Trustees in 1997. He also serves on numerous community boards and is director of Community Bankers Association of New York State and director of America's Community Bankers.
The Distinguished Alumnus Award annually recognizes alumnus whose commitment to service and achievement brings distinction to themselves and to Hudson Valley Community College. Distinguished alumni are nominated by their colleagues and fellow alumnus for the honor. The Hudson Valley Community College Foundation and the college's Office of Alumni Affairs sponsor the celebratory luncheon.
Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 50 degree and certification programs in four academic divisions: Liberal Arts and Sciences; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Business; as well as programs run through the Educational Opportunity Center offering certification programs in workforce and academic preparation. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 11,000 students, and it is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining. Hudson Valley has graduated more than 55,000 students.
