Paintings of Gelsy Verna to be on Display at Hudson Valley

The paintings of Gelsy Verna will be on display in Hudson Valley Community College's Teaching Gallery from January 30 to February 27. There will be a free public reception at 4 p.m. in the Teaching Gallery located in the Marvin Library on January 30 to celebrate the opening of the exhibit. The lecture, originally scheduled for 2:30 p.m., has been cancelled.

Verna is an associate member at the Artemisia Gallery in Chicago, Illinois and is represented by the Porter Troupe Gallery in San Diego, California. She has exhibited in California, Iowa, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, New York, Tennessee, and was included in a show of prints in Japan.

Born in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti in 1961, Verna moved to Montreal, Quebec in 1968. She received her B.F.A and M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. She now lives in Iowa City, Iowa and teaches at the University of Iowa.
