Image of Rochelle GoldfarbRochelle Goldfarb of Albany, an education specialist at Hudson Valley Community College, was recently recognized by the college with the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching. More than 35 students, and faculty and staff members, nominated her.

Described as a "mathematical wonder woman," by students, Goldfarb works in the college's Student Services department, tutoring students in math. Many of the students she works with are considered at-risk of not reaching their full academic potential due to poor educational preparation.

"Rochelle Goldfarb has a unique ability to connect with students," said John Buono, president of Hudson Valley. "She has a keen sense of where a student stands, and what it will take for them to succeed. And she's deeply committed to providing whatever it takes for Hudson Valley Community College's students to thrive."

Goldfarb received her bachelor's degree from San Francisco State University and she earned master's degree at UAlbany. She has been at Hudson Valley since 1993.

Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 10,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training.
