Tortorici Assigned Expanded Duties

Hudson Valley Community College has expanded the administrative responsibilities of Vivian Tortorici of Ballston Spa. Formerly English department chairperson for English at the college, Tortorici now also oversees the departments of humanities, fine arts and modern languages at Hudson Valley.
Academic departments reporting to her include 106 faculty members and 100 courses, including a new degree program in broadcast communications which is about to begin.
Tortorici began teaching English at Hudson Valley in 1983 and was promoted to department chairperson in 1987. She was recipient of the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1995. A graduate of Trinity College of Vermont, she earned a master's degree at SUNY/Albany. Prior to joining Hudson Valley she was department chairperson for English at Catholic Central High School, Troy.
Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 10,000 students and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training.
