Hudson Valley Community College Hosts 55th Commencement
85 percent of graduates are from the immediate Capital Region

WHO: Hudson Valley Community College to celebrate its 55th Commencement with 1,779 students eligible to participate; 85 percent of the 2009 graduates are from the immediate Capital Region (Albany County – 35 percent; Rensselear County – 28 percent; Saratoga County – 15 percent; and Schenectady County – 7 percent)
WHAT: The students will receive their associate’s degrees and certificates at the college’s 55th Commencement ceremony. Speakers include Andrew J. Matonak, president of Hudson Valley Community; Gregory Lewandusky, student senate president; Kathy Jimino, Rensselaer County Executive; Neil Kelleher, chairman of the Rensselaer County Legislature; and Robert H. Hill, chairman of the college’s Board of Trustees.

DETAILS:

Graduates will receive associate’s degree and certificates in more than 70 different areas of study in four academic schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Members of the Class of 2009 range in age from 17 to 63. The oldest graduate has earned an Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic Certificate and the youngest is transferring on to Siena College.

Today’s graduates join the ranks of Hudson Valley’s 65,000 alumni, 84 percent of whom live in the Capital Region. Approximately half of this year’s graduates will transfer to a four-year college or university; the remaining graduates will enter the workforce, pursuing careers in fields ranging from dental hygiene, nursing and chemical dependency counseling to law enforcement, accounting, and solar panel installation.
