Award Winning Author/Poet/Screenwriter Sherman Alexie To Speak at Hudson Valley

WHO: Sherman Alexie, award winning author, poet and screenwriter.
WHAT: Alexie will present his performance “The Business of Fancydancing: Poems, Stories, Punch Lines and Highly Biased Anecdotes.” The performance will be followed by a question-and-answer session and book signing.

DETAILS:

Alexie, a Spokane/Coeur d’Alene Indian, has authored 16 books, including “The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven,” which was the basis for his first screenplay “Smoke Signals.” The movie won the Audience Award and the Filmmakers Trophy at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival.

Alexie received a National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellowship in 1992, and he won the World Heavyweight Championship Poetry Bout at the Taos Poetry Circus for four consecutive years, from 1998 to 2001.

Alexie has been featured in several publications, including Time magazine, the New York Times magazine, and was named one of the 20 Most Fascinating Men in Politics by George magazine for his work in changing the perceived image of Native Americans.
