|Distance Learning (DL) at Hudson Valley Community College is defined as using the Internet and
e-mail to access courses, submit homework assignments, and communicate with the instructor and other students. DL students receive the same Library services that our on-campus students receive.
One service our Library provides for DL students is Interlibrary Loan (ILL). ILL is a process of lending and borrowing material between libraries. DL students may request material in several ways: from the Interlibrary Loan Web page; from the Ask a Librarian Web page; or by calling the Interlibrary Loan Desk at (518) 629-7387.
Upon receiving the request, the Interlibrary Loan staff will need to verify that the person requesting the material is enrolled for the current semester. The student needs to make sure that their request says they are a Distance Learning student and that the material needs to be mailed to them. The request also needs to have a telephone number, e-mail address and full mailing address.
Students can search our electronic databases which has many articles that are full-text. Please contact our Reference desk at (518) 629-7337 if you need assistance with searching in our electronic databases. Hard copy material that we own will be photocopied and mailed to the student’s home address. Books that we own will be checked out to the student in their name and mailed directly to the student. Materials such as books, journals, and newspapers that are owned by Hudson Valley Community College Library will be received faster than material which we have to request from other libraries. All material requested from another library will first come to our library here at Hudson Valley Community College. We will process the material and ship the material to the student at no cost. The student will not have to pay to return books to our Library here at Hudson Valley Community College. With each book students will receive a postage paid return mailer.
Fines for lost Interlibrary Loan material vary based on the lending library and the cost of the book. All fines will be posted to the student’s Hudson Valley Community College account.
If time is a key factor, then we will encourage students to go to their local public library and request the material needed through them. Please let us know if our Interlibrary Loan department can assist you or your local library in identifying resources.
