Services for TEC-SMART and other off-campus locations

Marvin Library is located on the main Troy campus and is open six days per week, providing nearly eighty hours of service weekly during the academic year. While students and faculty based at the Malta TEC-SMART campus, or one of many other off-campus locations, might find it difficult to visit the library, access to most resources and services is available through our website.

Access to Books

Nearly 100,000 academic electronic books (eBooks) are available to current students and faculty. Search for eBooks in our online catalog. eBooks can be used as sources for research papers and other assignments, just like print books.

Students or faculty registered only for classes at campuses more than 20 miles from Troy may request home delivery of print books from the Marvin Library collection; TEC-SMART students are eligible for this service. Use the interlibrary loan system to set up an account and to request books. Inform us in the Notes section that you are a distance student; items will be mailed to your home address after your current off-campus status is verified. A postage-paid return envelope will be included. Late fines and replacement fees are the responsibility of the borrower. Interlibrary loan services are available in the same manner. Students registered for classes in both Troy and Albany as well as off-campus locations in the same semester, are ineligible for home delivery.

Access to Journals and Journal Articles

Use the library’s research databases from anywhere that you have web access to find articles related to all courses taught at the college. From the library Web site, more than 70 research databases contain millions of articles from scholarly journals, newspapers and magazines.

Interlibrary Loan

The library provides an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service. ILL is a process of lending and borrowing material between libraries.

Research Help

Use the “Ask a Librarian” service for 24/7 assistance. Librarians are available by phone, by e-mail, and by online chat. Explore the subject guides for recommended starting points for research in just about every academic department.

In-class Instruction about Library Services

Faculty may request librarian instruction about library services at TEC-SMART or other off-campus locations. Librarians will visit off-campus locations on an availability basis. Please contact the library’s instructional coordinator to make arrangements at least two weeks in advance.

Need Other Help?

Contact us at library@hvcc.edu to describe what you need so we can determine how to provide assistance to you. The library is committed to providing equivalent services to students and faculty who study and teach either on campus, at another location, or online.
