Archives

The Archives contains documents of historical significance to Hudson Valley Community College, including its formation, development, and current and former administrations, faculty, and students.

The purpose of the Archives is to identify, collect, maintain and facilitate access to items which document the history and development of Hudson Valley Community College.

The Archives collects materials of permanent historical value including official records, correspondence, papers and publications generated by the administration, academic departments, faculty, staff, special programs and student organizations.

The Archives is a primary collector of all official college publications, including yearbooks, catalogs, course schedules, student newspapers, alumni magazines, departmental and program newsletters, brochures, event programs and announcements, faculty/staff and student directories, lists and rosters, and ephemeral material printed by the college.

In addition, the Archives collects records on campus buildings, such as blueprints and plans, faculty and department subject files, student club records, diaries, reunion books, scrapbooks and materials related to the work conducted at the college, memorabilia, photographs and audio-video recordings relating to the campus, college personnel, alumni, and students. The Archives collects artifacts and memorabilia related to the college's history which have significant importance and are a manageable physical size and condition. The Hudson Valley Community College Authors and Artists Collection, also part of the Archives, consists of publications and creative works by the college’s employees, and is intended to recognize, exhibit, collect, and promote their scholarly and creative output.

Due to its irreplaceable nature, archival material must be used in the Archives Room itself or in a nearby location under supervision of library staff. Special permission from the director or her designee is required to remove items from the library for short-term loan. Loans to campus departments will be accommodated whenever possible.

The library will provide photocopied or digitally scanned copies of items in the Archives for individual research purposes as resources, condition of materials, and legal restrictions permit.

The Archives is located on the first floor of Marvin Library Learning Commons. The Archives is open to Hudson Valley Community College students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. Access is by appointment. Contact the library director at (518) 629-7388 or by email at library@hvcc.edu at least two days in advance to arrange for an appointment.
