Accessing Student Computer Systems


You will be expected to use several computer systems as a Hudson Valley Community College student.

You will need a username and password before you can access any of the following systems: the Academic Computing Environment (ACE), the MyHudsonValley Portal/Blackboard, E-mail, Flexible Registration and WIReD.

Your username is defined as the first initial of your first name followed by a hyphen (-) followed by up to 13 characters of your last name (all lower case no spaces or other special characters). Example: Jane Smith’s username would be j-smith. If there is another student whose first initial and last name would create a duplicate username (like Joseph Smith), a number will be appended to the username so that Joseph Smith’s username would be j-smith1.

Your initial password will be a randomly generated 9 character value. Your username and password will be mailed to you at your address on file at the college.

Changing Your Password: You can change your password as many times as you like, but the format of your password must follow the established password format outlined in the Change My Password page.


ACE (Academic Computing Environment)

The ACE recognizes you as a valid user of college computer systems and allows you to access all software used in your courses and the following systems: the MyHudsonValley Portal/Blackboard, E-mail, and WIReD.

You can access any PC provided for students on campus in Computer Learning Center, classrooms, laboratories, study centers and at the library by logging in with your valid username and password. Login with your username & password.

For help in setting up and using your ACE account, speak directly with a person available to assist students in the Computer Learning Center. You also can visit the Computer Learning Center Web page, e-mail clchelp@hvcc.edu, or call the “help desk” line at (518) 629-7891.


MyHudsonValley Portal/Blackboard

The MyHudsonValley Portal/Blackboard is the college’s secure online Web portal powered by Blackboard. It is your online source for Blackboard courses, student announcements and other key information from the college, college resources, and customized information.

To access the MyHudsonValley Portal/Blackboard and your courses, go to the Hudson Valley Community College home page (www.hvcc.edu) and select the Students link then the MyHudsonValley Portal link. Login with your username and password. Once you’ve logged in, you will have access to your courses.

Besides courses, what else can be found in the MyHudsonValley Portal/Blackboard? This is the primary way the college will deliver announcements to the whole student body so it’s important you visit the MyHudsonValley Portal often to see what’s posted, even if you aren’t taking a Blackboard course. All student announcements will be listed on the “Home” tab in the Student Announcements module after you log in. Announcements include information about grades, scholarships, important academic and graduation deadlines, campus safety and public safety advisories, and student trips and events. You also can customize the information on the “MyPage” tab, adding features including weather and news from The New York Times.


E-mail

E-mail is used to send and receive messages to and from your instructor or other students. The format of your e-mail address format is: username@hvcc.edu. In the above examples, Jane Smith’s e-mail address will be j-smith@hvcc.edu and Joseph Smith’s e-mail address will be j-smith1@hvcc.edu.

You can access WebMail one of two ways: go to webmail.hvcc.edu or go to the Hudson Valley Community College home page (www.hvcc.edu) select the Students link then select the WebMail link. Select Students from the dropdown list. Login with your username and password.

Flexible Registration

Flexible Registration allows you to register and pay for credit-free courses.

Go to www.hvcc.edu/communityed/register and click on the link to the courses you wish to register for. Login in with your username and password. If you are a new student you can register for classes and create an account. Your log in information will be mailed for future use.

WIReD (Web Information and Registration Direct)

WIReD allows you to access your personal information, to view a schedule of classes, to pay your bill, to view your grades or transcript, to register for classes, and to review your financial aid and account status.

You can access WIReD two ways: go to www.hvcc.edu/wired or go to the Hudson Valley Community College home page (www.hvcc.edu) and select the Students link then select the WIReD logo. Login with your username and password.
