Wireless Configuration for Microsoft Windows XP SP2


If you are a current Hudson Valley Community College student or employee you may connect your Windows XP SP2 computer to our wireless network by following the instructions below.


Step 1

Open the Start Menu and select Control Panel.

In the Control Panel select the Network and Internet Connections category.

Select Network Connections.

Step 3

Select Wireless Network Connection and right click. Then make sure the Wireless Network Connection is enabled. If you see Disable, then it is enabled. If you see Enable, then select “Enable” to enable the connection. Once enabled, select properties.

After selecting properties, the Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog box will appear. Select the Wireless Networks tab. If you do not see the Wireless Networks tab, go back to Step 4 and make sure the wireless network connection is enabled.

Select Add… to configure the wireless network.

The Wireless Network Properties dialog box will appear. Enter HVCC-COMM in the Network name (SSID) field.

Select WPA2 for Network Authentication, and AES for Data Encryption.

Select the Authentication tab.

Note: If AES is not available in the Data encryption field, your wireless card may not be supported or your card may require a firmware/driver update. Check with your card/PC manufacturer.

Select the Protected EAP (PEAP) from the EAP type pull down.

Deselect Authenticate as computer when computer information is available.

Select Properties.

Deselect Validate server certificate.

Select Configure.

Deselect Automatically Use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)., select OK on the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties dialog, the Protected EAP Properties dialog, the Wireless network properties dialog, and the Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog.

Select anywhere in the Wireless Network Connection bubble. DO NOT select the ‘X’ to close the Wireless Network Connection information bubble.

Step 11a

If you see this bubble, the wireless network was not configured properly. Please repeat Steps 6-10.

You may also see this dialog while connecting to the wireless network.

The Enter Credentials dialog box will appear. Enter your HVCC Username and Password. Leave the Logon domain field blank and select OK. Your Username will be the same username used to log into HVCC computers on campus and email.

The Wireless Network Connection is now connected information bubble will appear.
