Mission, Goals and Objectives

The mission of the Instructional Media Center (IMC) is to enhance the Teaching/Learning process at Hudson Valley Community College through the utilization of the instructional resources available through the Instructional Media Center.

The purpose of the Instructional Media Center is to provide a centralized site to the College's Academic Community where their immediate as well as long term instructional media needs are interpreted. This process facilitates the acquisition, housing, utilizing and circulation of more than 5,000 title hard copy media collection, as well as the acquisition and overseeing the circulation of the over 20,000+ titled streaming media resources. Faculty driven custom programs of service are provided both on site and online at the Instructional Media Center.

The goals of the IMC:

  1. To maintain and circulate the media collection, both hard copy and streaming
  2. To collaborate with Faculty in identifying media needs.
  3. To anticipate the media and equipment needs of the IMC.

The objectives of the IMC:

  1. To maintain and circulate the media collection, both hard copy and streaming.

    1.1 Manage the collection.
    1.2  Circulate the collection.
    1.3 Keep collection content current .
    1.4  Provide adequate physical facilities to meet the instructional media needs.

  2. To collaborate with faculty in identifying short and long term media needs.

    2.1  Review the collection and search the marketplace in response to Faculty requests.
    2.2 Acquire information about Faculty requests.
    2.3 Select and acquire media holdings .

  3. To anticipate the media and equipment needs of the IMC.

 3.1 Collaborate with departments on the design of custom media support and evaluation of media resources.
3.2 Identify the repair, replacement and acquisition of media equipment for the use at the Media Center Facility.
3.3 Investigate the delivery of media resources based on changing formats, and technology.
