Each department using hazardous materials is required to maintain
an accurate listing of the products in use and a copy of each
product's Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
The MSDS is developed by the manufacturer of the product and
gives detailed information regarding health, fire and safety
Typically, college departments keep all their MSDSs together
in a binder available in the shop, lab or workplace. MSDSs must
be made available to all staff who may use the products. It is
a very good way to learn about any potential hazards in using
the product and how to handle it safely.
The chemical inventory for each department and links to most MSDSs is now available on line through Blackboard to all current HVCC staff. Look under the Environmental Health & Safety Organization, to which all employees are enrolled.
